830 mile walk ACROSS MICHIGAN on stilts, Raising over $71,000 for UCP!

On May 5th, 2008, at New Bedford Academy, near Toledo, OH, Neil Began an 830 mile stilt walk across Michigan in order to raise money for United Cerebral Palsy of Michigan.

Along the way he visited schools, camps, and service organizations, using stilt walking and story telling to encourage youth to rise above their challenges.

Neil met and faced many challenges of his own throughout his journey, including walking through the heat, wind, and rain.  He repeatedly had to walk on malfunctioning stilts, wearing through two pairs.

There was no support vehicle!  Neil carried what he needed in a backpack.  Although Neil took the trip by himself he was definitly not alone.

All throughout Michigan generous people took care of his needs.  Food, water, and donations were brought to him daily.  At night, complete strangers would open up their homes, providing me with a warm meal and a comfortable bed.

On June 28th, 2008, Neil completed his walk in Ironwood, MI, crossing into the Wisconsin border after 8 weeks of walking approximately 20 miles each day.  The walk generated over $71,000 for UCP's assistive technology loan fund, enabling people with disabiliites to purchase accomodations that allow them to live and work independently.

The story of Neil's walk across Michigan appeared in over 600 news outlets throughout the world!

He is currently writing a book about his adventure!
